Upcoming Events for September 5th-8th

Here’s a Sneak Peek at Next Week:

Learning Objectives









  • Reading: What are the habits of a  good reader? We  continue to practice Listen to Reading using the Imaginary Station computer program. We will build endurance with Read to Self, Read to Someone and Listen to Reading. We will study the short "o" vowel. We will practice reading, sorting, writing, and spelling during Word Study time. 
  • Writing: We will write stories about what we want to be when we grow up. We will learn how to add more details to our illustrations and sentences. We are working on writing sentences with capital letters, spaces between words, and ending marks. 
  • Math: We build and decompose numbers 1-10. We will add and subtract numbers 1-10. We will continue to review shapes and patterns. We will introduce even/odd numbers and discuss equal shares. 
  • Science: We will learn about the four seasons. We will be learning about how the Earth orbits the sun.
  • Character:  How can resolve a conflict with a peer? (Bugs and wishes lesson)How can I be an AES Star and "Take Responsibility?"





1.) Math workbook pages 27-33 (Keep workbook at home) 
2.) Read at least 20 minutes each night
3.)Practice the sight words in your folder
4.) Explore some of the learning games on the blog!


Classroom News









 **If your child cannot tie their shoes, please practice this skill at home. In first grade we need to do this skill independently!

**The students are doing a great job reading and writing independently!



**The students have started their class jobs. Two students are the "filers." They file graded work into their classmates' mailboxes. We are still learning how to do this! Please send work back that does not belong to your child. :) Thank you!

  • Math: We build and decompose numbers 1-10. We will add and subtract numbers 1-10. We will continue to review shapes and patterns.
  • Science: We will  learn about scientific investigations and using our senses. Students will participate in their first STEM challenge: The Egg Drop! Pictures will be shared!
  • Character:  How can resolve a conflict with a peer? (Bugs and wishes lesson)

Learning Objectives











  • Reading: What are the habits of a  good reader? We will learn how to pick a just right book. We will learn strategies to use when reading with someone.
  • Writing: We will continue to build a writing community. We will write stories about how we help. 
  • Math: We will be working on how to add numbers to make a whole. We will study the partners of numbers (addends). We will discuss multiple ways to make "10."
  • Science: We will be learning about the Earth, sun, and seasons. We will learn about the solar eclipse happening on Monday, August 21st!
  • Character:  How can I be a good citizen?





1.) Math workbook pages 1-14 (Keep these pages at home)
2.) Make Sight Words Flashcards and Practice (You can find the sight words in the students' yellow folders)
3.) Explore some of the learning games on the blog!

Learning Objectives










  • Reading: What are habits of a reader? We will learn 3 ways to read a book (text, picture, retelling.) We will learn how to Read to Self as part of Daily 5.
  • Writing: What does it mean to be a writer? We will introduce a writer's tools. We will begin writing small moment stories. 
  • Math: We will be working on counting and extending repeating patterns.
  • Social Studies: How do people show good citizenship? We will learn about citizenship and Eleanor Roosevelt.
  • Character:  How can I be an Auburn Star? We will discuss how at Auburn we practice the following:
    • Safety and Self Space
    • Taking Responsibility
    • Acting Kindly
    • Respecting Self, Others, and Property
    • Showing Good Citizenship
