Upcoming Events for February 27th- March 3rd

Learning Objectives



  • Reading: The students will identify the main idea of the text they read. Students will also describe the supporting details. 
  • Writing: Students will engage in opinion writing. They will write about which animal makes the best pet. Students will give reasons and examples to support their opinion.   We will continue to work on writing sentences with capital letters, spaces between words, and ending marks. We are also working on writing "juicy" sentences with adjectives, metaphors, and quotation marks. 
  • Math: We will discuss how to transfer information presented in a graph to a table. We will also learn how to solve story problems using comparison. Then, we will move into measurement with inches. 
  • Social Studies: We finish our Geography unit. We will discuss how where you live affects the clothes you war, the animals you see, and the land around you. We will focus on farmland, polar regions, rain forests, islands, and deserts. 
  • Character:  Zones of Regulation (The Zones of Regulation is a program designed to help students gain skills in consciously regulating their emotions and actions.) We will hold class meetings and work on finding positive and logical solutions to common classroom problems.

Upcoming Events for February 20th-24th

Learning Objectives



  • Reading: The students will practice making predictions before and during the reading. They will give evidence to support their predictions. Students will evaluate their predictions to see if they were right or wrong.
  • Writing: Students will engage in opinion writing. They will write about which school lunch would be the best. Students will give reasons and examples to support their opinion.   We will continue to work on writing sentences with capital letters, spaces between words, and ending marks. We are also working on writing "juicy" sentences with adjectives, metaphors, and quotation marks. 
  • Math: Students will create and use graphs to compare data. Students will be able to explain which has the most, the least, and how many in all. Students will compare how many more or fewer a certain item has compared to another. 
  • Social Studies: We will learn about President's Day and why we honor this day in February. We will move into a Geography unit later in the week. We will discuss how where you live affects the clothes you war, the animals you see, and the land around you. We will focus on farmland, polar regions, rain forests, islands, and deserts.

Upcoming Events for February 13th-17th

Learning Objectives


  • Reading: The students will practice retelling what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of a fictional story.
  • Writing: Students will engage in various Valentine's Day themed writing activities including Conversation Hearts Writing, Valentine Letter writing, and Designing and Marketing a new candy.  We will continue to work on writing sentences with capital letters, spaces between words, and ending marks. We are also working on writing "juicy" sentences with adjectives and metaphors. 
  • Math: We will begin Unit 6 which focuses on graphing and measurement. Students will learn how to construct and interpret picture graphs. We will also review comparing numbers. 
  • Social Studies: We will continue our focus on Dental Health. Students will earn a prize for bringing in their brushing chart!
  • Character:  Zones of Regulation (The Zones of Regulation is a program designed to help students gain skills in consciously regulating their emotions and actions.)

Valentine’s Day Party... cupid february design
On Tuesday, February 14th, we will be having a Valentine’s Day Celebration from 1:30-2:30 PM. A class list will be sent home in students' Daily Folders. I would like for the students to “address” their Valentine’s themselves.  (Students will be making a Valentine’s carrying bag at school.  You do not need to prepare a Valentine’s Day box.)

Upcoming Events for February 6th-10th

Learning Objectives


  • Reading: The students will practice answering the following questions during and after the reading: "Who?", "What?", "Where?", "When?", "Why?", and "How?"
  • Writing: We will write true stories in which we describe how we felt at the beginning, middle, and end.  We will continue to work on writing sentences with capital letters, spaces between words, and ending marks. We are also working on writing "juicy" sentences with adjectives and metaphors. 
  • Math: We will week in math we will be finishing up our money and story problem unit. We will take our Unit 5 assessment
  • Social Studies: This week we will finish our unit discussing famous American symbols and figures: the bald eagle, the American flag, the Statue of Liberty, The Liberty Bell, and the Washington Monument. We will then be focusing on Dental Health. 
  • Character:  Zones of Regulation (The Zones of Regulation is a program designed to help students gain skills in consciously regulating their emotions and actions.)
