Upcoming Events for September 26th-30th

Here’s a Sneak Peek at Next Week:

Learning Objectives

  • Reading: What are the habits of a  good reader? We will learn about the Chunky Monkey strategy (Break the word into chunks you already know). We will study words that have r-blends. We will practice reading, sorting, writing, and spelling during Word Study time.
  • Writing: We will write stories about special places we like to visit. We will work on adding more details to our illustrations and sentences. We are working on writing sentences with capital letters, spaces between words, and ending marks. I encourage students to be fearless spellers. This means they sound out unknown words or look to the Word Wall for assistance.
  • Math: We will continue to learn about addition strategies (counting on using dot drawing, putting the larger number in your head and adding on with fingers, using a number line, mental math). We will introduce subtraction.
  • Social Studies: We will begin a Diversity unit. We will learn about African, Mexican, Chinese, German, and Japanese cultures.
  • Character:  How can I be an AES Star and Show Good Citizenship?

Classroom News

  • STEM: Our first STEM challenge was a success! The students became engineers as they asked questions, came up with a plan, created, tested, and improved their apple containers. I also saw a lot of good teamwork as they shared ideas and worked together in small groups.  Pictures will be emailed soon!
