Sneak Peek at the Week of March 2-6

It was a productive week in first grade despite the early release and delayed start days! Even though we didn't get much snow, I hope you and your family enjoyed the extra time together. 

On Thursday we will perform our play, "How Does Your Garden Grow?". Please read the following important reminders...

Parent Reminders for the First Grade Play
How Does your Garden Grow?
1.     The first grade students will present two performances of the musical,Thursday, March 5. The morning performance will be at 9:30 a.m. and the evening performance will be at 7:00 p.m. Please make sure your child arrives no later than 6:15 p.m. for the evening show. We will meet in our classroom. They will get dressed at school.
2.      For the play, the first grade students are to wear a solid colored short sleeve t-shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes.  T-shirts can be orange, yellow, pink, blue, purple, red, blue, turquoise, green, etc.
3.     The only exception is the  for the students who are performing the following jobs in the show: ( A note went home about this several weeks ago)
·       Weed Rappers- need a solid green shirt and jeans
·       Flower speakers –need a solid green shirt and  jeans
·       Flower dancers- need a solid green shirt and a pair of shorts (any color shorts)
·       Crows- need black  t-shirts and black leggings
4.     Please have your child bring in his/ her t- shirt to their teacher labeled and in a Ziplock bag by Friday, February 27.  We will keep your child’s shirt at school until after the performances.
5.     On Tuesday, March 3 we will have the Dress Rehearsal at 9:15. Please make sure your child wears jeans to school on that day. The PTO will make photos for the photo DVD that day.
**You can print photos off of the DVD.**
6.     Also, make sure your child wears jeans to school on Thursday, March 5 which is our performance day.

In honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday, we will have a "Read In" on Monday morning from 8:00-8:30! Please have your child wear red, black, or white {or Dr. Seuss t-shirt if you already have one}. They may bring their favorite small pillow {please make sure it can fit in their book bag} and books for the celebration. In the afternoon, we will enjoy Hop on POPcorn and watch Horton Hears a Who. We can't wait!

SPRING BOOK FAIR
It is time for the RBES Spring Book Fair!  The dates for this exciting event are March 16-20.     The Book Fair will be open Mon.-Thurs. from 8:00 AM until 2:30 PM, Tuesday night from 5:00-7:00PM and on Friday from 8:00 AM until 10 AM.  The Book Fair provides students,  parents, grandparents, and special friends an excellent opportunity to purchase great books that your children will love to read.  This is also a wonderful way to help support the RBES Media Center.  All proceeds go directly to the RBES Media Center.

Can your child tie their shoes? If not, it's important to start/continue practicing this skill until they master it. This will help them gain independence. Check out these websites for shoe tying tips.

Week of February 23-27

A SNEAK PEEK AT NEXT WEEK

What a fun and chilly week together in first grade! It's hard not having outdoor recess all week, but the children {and I} survived! We are very thankful to have GoNoodle's indoor recess videos and brain breaks to get us up and moving throughout the day! Stay warm this weekend!!

Week of February 17- 20

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2015

 Our Valentine's Day party was so much fun! The children enjoyed their sweet treats and exchanging cards. A big thank you for helping your child make their box, get their cards ready, and for all the party donations!! 
I hope you and your family have a wonderful Valentine's Day! Remember, we do not have school on Monday! Enjoy the long weekend!

-In order to continue to be able to send leveled readers home, please make sure your child returns their book the next day. 






Our Valentine's Day party will be on February 13th at 1:30. This is a low key party, but a favorite with the kids. We'll have a  sweet treat and exchange cards.  Students may bring in a homemade box to collect their cards in. This can be a fun and creative project at home.  You can use an empty shoe box, cereal box, oatmeal container, etc. for your child’s box. I will have plain bags if your child does not participate.  Please bring completed boxes  to school on Friday, February 13th.


I  will send a class list home in your child's yellow folder today. Please have your child write their name and classmates' names on the cards.  Please send in completed cards with your child's box on the 13th

Also, if you haven't done so yet, please sign up to bring an ice cream topping!
